What Is Intelligence?

February 8th, 2008 by technitus

If intelligence is the sum of IQ + EQ, this doesn’t make it any easier.
According to modern psychology there are about 22 septillion (24 zeros)
ways to characterize a person. So which character type + an IQ of X makes a person intelligent? Can’t you be considered “unintelligent” in a certain case, yet “intelligent” in another?

Example: When it comes to mathematics you’re a loser - but you have 1,000 friends, you know how to cope with social problems and you’re good at interacting with people.

What stands behind intelligence? Can it be determined at all?
Is intelligence determined/defined by each society/cultural circle on its own?

Intelligence vs Self-Confidence

February 8th, 2008 by technitus

What is more vital? Intelligence or self-confidence?
I think in many cases the latter applies.
I know only a few people who are blessed with both, intelligence AND self-confidence.
Many people manage to enjoy the status of an intelligent person without actually being intelligent.
For people who want to disguise their lack of intelligence (the term ‘lack’ is to be
considered subjective), two things are important: poise and the ability to pretend
to be intelligent
. Sometimes it’s enough to acquire a certain amount of rudimentary knowledge to impress others or to reach a privileged goal.

Would you say you are intelligent? How do you justify your answer?

Have you ever had this feeling?

February 7th, 2008 by technitus

Everything in your life is dull and boring and you’re starting to have a bad conscience about it? Most recently I’ve been in such a situation. I decided to get out of this mess and change something. From now on I’ll read more, do more sports, eat reasonably, make more money, educate myself and of course…blog more.

Have you ever felt like this? Are you still in this situation? Or did you get out of it? If you did, let me know how.

Two quotes are helping me at the moment:

“Don’t tell your problems to people: eighty percent don’t care; and the other twenty percent are glad you have them.”

“Think in the morning, act in the noon, read in the evening, and sleep at night.”
(I changed it a little bit though… I like to start my day at noon.)
