Excuse or Truth?

“Success is not measured by what one brings, but by what one leaves.”
What do you think? Is this just an excuse to ease our conscience?
Is this just a quote stated by one particular society?
Does this quote go for all societies? Does it go for our society?

I really like the quote, because it says so much with so little words. Some people say that the most important thing is success, not matter which way we achieve it. But when you look at what is left once we succeed, you have to face everything: What you did to succeed and what came out of it. So when you’ve been ruthless while trying to reach your goal, you’ll only leave scorched earth. So, to me the quote says: Think about how you want to reach whatever you are aiming for, because the way you get there counts as much as the goal itself.

Well said Starstuff. But I think the saying has more to do with what one leaves behind, their legacy.

I think the term success is defined differently by all people. One can believe to be successful if they have a good job, and make a lot of money, one can define success as raising a family, one can define success and spreading the word of God to others…etc. etc. However, it is what you do in your life every single day that makes the legacy. So I believe success it about what one brings AND also what one leaves behind.

That’s absolutely not an excuse at all - it’s quite a deep truth.
